International Contemporary Ensemble—Emmalie Tello, clarinet; Josh Modney, violin; Yezu Woo, violin; Wendy Richman, viola; Ashley Walters, ‘cello; and Jacob Greenberg, piano
commissioned by Hear Now Ursula Krummel 2024; premiered at FRANKIE (LA) as part of Hear Now Music Festival 2024
The ensemble maximally reinforces otherwise untunable infrasonic difference tones through the juxtaposition of individually tunable harmonic ratios. Throughout the piece, the collectively reinforced difference tones gradually descend from 20 Hz to 1 Hz (in 19-limit just intonation).
premiered at PHASE Gallery (LA) as part of Telepathic Radiation Causality
The “seminaiadma” interval hovers at the threshold of perceivable pitch difference (3.5 cents): the smallest interval in the piece. The ensemble maximally reinforces difference tones from 40 Hz to 3 Hz (in 47-limit just intonation).
